In news that is certain to inspire Liverpool supporters, former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly begun contract talks with the Merseyside club and an appointment could come within the week, according to the BBC's Ben Smith.

With news of Brendan Rodgers' dismissal, the media started floating rumours about potential replacements, with Klopp and ex-Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti the odds-on favourites to assume the position.

Reports suggest the club has contacted both Klopp and Ancelotti, with the former being preferred for the long-term improvement of the side.

News that the 48-year-old German and the club have begun discussions signals that the Stuttgart-born gaffer is poised to become Liverpool's first non-British boss since Rafa Benitez's tenure at Anfield from 2004 to 2010.

Intent on naming Rodgers' replacement prior to Liverpool's trip to Tottenham on Oct. 17, the club's brass will be looking to accelerate discussions during the international break.
