Report: Chelsea expected to sign former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia
Chelsea is planning to sign former AC Mian goalkeeper Marco Amelia as the club deals with a long-term injury to starter Thibaut Courtois, reports Dominic Fifield of the Guardian.
The current back up, Asmir Begovic, has played the past five games for the Blues while Courtois recovers from a knee problem, which is expected to keep the Belgian out of the lineup until December.
Manager Jose Mourinho wants more experience in goal in the event Begovic goes down as well.
Chelsea was previously linked with a move for 37-year-old Porto 'keeper Helton, but Mourinho is looking for a more immediate, short-term solution.
"We need a goalkeeper now, not in January," Mourinho said in a news conference. "Helton has a contract with Porto and would only be available in January. By then, Courtois will be available again."
A World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, Amelia is currently a free agent. He spent four years with Milan, making 41 appearances between 2010 and 2014.
