Needed victory: Southampton defeats 10-man Norwich as Dusan Tadic scores twice
For the first time since being appointed manager of Norwich City, Alex Neil failed to tally at least a point from an away fixture.
Southampton defeated Norwich 3-0 at St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday, earning its first victory of the season after the Canaries were reduced to 10 players due to a red card - described by pundit Gary Neville as "stupid" - issued to Steven Whittaker in the first half.
Dusan Tadic, who scored the Saints' second and third goals, and Sadio Mane, who tallied two assists, were bright spots in a competent-looking attack that Norwich was unable to contain.
That said, the result is one Southampton supporters should be cautious about reading into. Norwich played with only 10 men for an hour and offered next to nothing throughout the match, producing the type of performance normally seen from relegation-quality clubs.
