Southampton complete signing of Maarten Stekelenburg on season-long loan
Maarten Stekelenburg is back in the Premier League.
Southampton confirmed their third signing of the summer Tuesday, as the 32-year-old 'keeper is joining the club on a season-long loan from Fulham.
The signing of Stekelenburg, who spent the 2014-15 season on loan at AS Monaco, follows an injury to first-choice shot-stopper Fraser Forster that required surgery on his knee.
It remains unknown whether Forster will be back on the pitch by the time the new Premier League season kicks off.
"I'm very pleased that I've joined," Stekelenburg said. "It's a big, nice club that will play European football - and I can play. Last year I didn't play a lot, so it's an opportunity for me. I'm grateful. The last two years weren't the best of my career. As they say in England: the best is yet to come."
