Leicester City terminate contracts of trio involved in racist orgy
Leicester City delivered the ultimate punishment for three players involved in the disgraceful video that showed the trio involved in a racist orgy during the team's trip to Thailand.
Tom Hopper, Adam Smith, and James Pearson had their contracts terminated for their involvement in the incident, the team announced Wednesday.
"The decision follows the conclusion of an internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings, as a consequence of events that took place during the Club’s end-of-season goodwill tour of Thailand," the team said in a statement.
The punishment is a consequence of the probe the team launched upon the emergence of the video which showed the three players taking part in sexual activities with Thai women while making racist remarks in the process.
Making matters worse is the fact that manager Nigel Pearson's son, James, was part of the scandal and Leicester City's owners are natives of Thailand.
"Leicester City Football Club is acutely aware of its position, and that of its players, as a representative of the city of Leicester, the Premier League, the Football Association and the Club's supporters.
"It is committed to promoting a positive message of community and family values and equality, and to upholding the standards expected of a Club with its history, tradition and aspirations."
Pearson was the only one of the three to have appeared in a match with the senior squad, while the rest primarily played in the youth ranks.
