West Ham announce signing of Pedro Obiang
West Ham United have won the race for Pedro Obiang's services.
The 23-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who will arrive at Upton Park from U.C. Sampdoria, put pen to paper on a four-year deal Wednesday, marking West Ham's first signing under new manager Slaven Bilic.
Obiang made 35 Serie A appearances at Sampdoria last season, notching three goals and one assist while providing an immense defensive contribution that surely caught West Ham's eye.
"I'm very happy to have signed," Obiang said. "We have been talking about this for a long time and now I've finally got the chance to come here. I went on holiday after the season had finished and I was looking forward to receiving that call to tell me where and when to sign for this Club!
"I'm very excited to play in the Premier League. It's a style of football that will help me to progress as a player and as a person, so it will be very good."
Obiang's 3.1 tackles per game ranked fifth in Serie A last season, and his commitment to winning the ball falls in line perfectly with West Ham's working-class image.
