Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed after Sunday's 3-0 loss to Everton that captain and striker Wayne Rooney sustained a knee injury during the match.
Rooney, who leads the Red Devils with 14 goals on the season, was substituted late in the contest, making way for Robin van Persie to return for the first time in two months after recovering from an ailment of his own.
