Sunderland winger Adam Johnson was released on bail Monday, hours after being arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Johnson, who is suspended from Sunderland pending the outcome of a police investigation, spent Monday being questioned at Peterlee police station in County Durham. He had initially been set to join his squad for their Premier League fixture at Hull City on Tuesday.
Confirmation of Johnson's release on bail, pending ongoing investigations, came courtesy of Durham constabulary.
Through 24 Premier League fixtures, Johnson has notched four goals, including a 90th-minute winner over Newcastle in December's edition of the Tyne-Wear derby.
