Roma activates clause in Yanga-Mbiwa deal, loan from Newcastle made permanent

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is not going back to Newcastle.
The French defender joined Roma on a two-year loan deal this past summer, and a clause in the contract stipulated that the transfer would be made permanent should he make 20 appearances with the Italian side this season.
The 25-year-old played all 90 minutes in Roma's 1-1 draw with Fiorentina on Sunday, triggering that clause.
Newcastle released a brief statement on their official website confirming the move on Tuesday.
