Report: Steven Gerrard to join L.A. Galaxy on 18-month deal
Steven Gerrard could be on his way from Anfield to the StubHub Center.
Gerrard confirmed earlier Saturday that he would be departing Liverpool for a Major League Soccer club at the end of the Premier League season. That club will likely be the L.A. Galaxy on an 18-month loan pro-rated deal worth £3.9 million, according to ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle.
ESPN's report comes as something of a surprise given that Gerrard stated only hours earlier that he was "not over the line with any team yet" despite being "close" to a decision.
However, unlike the timeliness of the report, few will be shocked about the 34-year-old midfielder joining the Galaxy. The MLS club has been in search of a big-name signing with Robbie Keane standing alone as their only well-known foreign player. And, of course, David Beckham paved something of a path to Los Angeles for English midfielders looking to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
The deal reportedly required approval from the MLS Board of Governors as the league will pick up $750,000 of the costs.
