Didier Drogba on Chelsea: 'This team will only be good if it wins titles and big trophies'
Chelsea's 5-0 away win to Schalke in Champions League action on Tuesday saw Didier Drogba become the first African player to score 50 goals in European competition, a remarkable achievement by any standard.
But following the match, the Ivorian forward took the chance to discuss Chelsea as a unit rather than single out his individual accomplishment.
He insisted that trophies are the only way the club's current side can be established as a truly great team.
"I think Chelsea have the chance to say we had great teams in terms of spirit (in the past), a machine in terms of hard work and efficiency," Drogba said, according to the Guardian.
"This one is efficient too, but with the attacking players, the passing rate and quality of passing is higher. We have more creative players, which makes it maybe better to look at. Either way, the most important thing is to win titles, so this team will only be good if it wins titles and big trophies.
"Then we will be able to compare it with previous sides."
Drogba's final moment at Chelsea before joining Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in 2012 saw him convert the winning penalty that handed the club their first-ever Champions League title. He subsequently returned to Stamford Bridge in July.
