Rooney laments 'disastrous start,' says Manchester United must move forward
Wayne Rooney's first game as captain of Manchester United didn't go as planned, with the Red Devils dropping a 2-1 decision to Swansea City.
"It was a disastrous start for us, but we have to move on," Rooney told MUTV. "We're not happy, the manager's not happy. We'll have to go through what went wrong during the week. We'll do that."
Rooney called his debut at captain a "proud moment" but said it was overshadowed by "a disappointing result," one he won't be recalling fondly any time soon.
"You always want to win. It was a nice moment, but I'm disappointed we lost." he said.
Manchester United travels to Sunderland for its next game. A win would help get the season-opening disappointment out of players' minds, which Rooney sees as an important step to moving forward.
"It's a game we were desperate to win to kick-start our season but we haven't done that," he said. "We have to go back during the week and look at how the game went, try to improve and make sure we get it right for the next game."
