VIDEOS: City score twice in quick succession to take 3-1 lead over Southampton going into halftime
Reuters
Manchester City, looking to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool, looked destined to head into halftime against Southampton locked at one apiece in the opening match of the Premier League slate on Saturday.
Then their vaunted attack kicked into high-gear in injury time.
While the move was impressive, there was more than a hint of offside against David Silva after receiving the flick from Edin Dzeko.
Better luck next time, linesman.
City would have been happy to take the 2-1 lead into the interval, but Dzeko decided instead to widen the margin just a minute later.
You can almost here the consternation coming from Liverpool.
