Seventh heaven for Cech as he wins award
PRAGUE, March 03, 2014 - Czech Republic international goalkeeper Petr Cech was named Czech player of the year for the seventh time on Monday.
The 31-year-old Chelsea star -- capped 106 times since making his international debut in 2002 -- beat Tomas Rosicky, who plays for Chelsea's Premier League rivals Arsenal, and Vladimir Darida, who plays for Bundesliga outfit Freiburg, in a vote by coaches, players and club officials.
"It is an award so therefore one never wants to let ones standards slip," said Cech, who was a member of the Chelsea side that won the Europa League last season after winning the Champions League the year before.
"Each year I do all I can to be the best."
