Wenger admits Arsenal was interested in Lewandowski
With Robert Lewandowski's transfer to Bayern Munich complete Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal was interested in the Polish star's services.
"Yes, we looked into Lewandowski, but honestly he signed for Bayern one and a half years ago, everyone knows that," said Wenger, according to the Daily Mail.
Injuries to Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott have intensified Arsenal's efforts in acquiring a striker, but Wenger knows it will not be easy to acquire a top tier talent in January.
‘We are like everyone, we look out there and see what is happening," he said. "If an opportunity turns up, you know as well that all the big players are at big clubs at the moment and they go for important targets."
"Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation it will be difficult."
The Arsenal boss also indicated the Gunners are interested in Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, but the Bavarian giants will not sell him now. Wenger then hinted that the Croatian international could be available in the summer.
"Lewandowski is at Dortmund until the end of the season and they will not sell Mandzukic now - maybe at the end of the season."
