Report: Ten Hag wants to sell Man Utd captain Maguire next summer
Erik ten Hag is ready to cut ties with Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.
The Red Devils manager is understood to be intent on selling Maguire next summer in an effort to raise funds that will be used to further overhaul the squad, according to The Guardian's Jamie Jackson.
Club officials are apparently prepared to accept the financial impact of completing a deal to sell the England international, whose stock has fallen considerably since Manchester United signed him from Leicester City for £80 million in 2019 - a world-record fee for a defender.
The 29-year-old has fallen out of favor at United, making just one Premier League start - a 4-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion - since Ten Hag was named manager this past summer.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been Ten Hag's preferred options at the back. Victor Lindelof has also recently been picked ahead of Maguire in Varane's absence through injury.
Maguire's lack of playing time, however, wasn't enough to put Gareth Southgate off, as the England boss named him in the Three Lions' 26-man World Cup squad Wednesday.
