Calvert-Lewin earns 1st England call-up, Maguire returns to fold
Everton hotshot Dominic Calvert-Lewin received his first call-up to the English national team Thursday after scoring eight goals in five games to start the 2020-21 season.
Calvert-Lewin will be joined by Arsenal defender Bukayo Saka and Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes, who received their first senior nods ahead of games against Wales, Belgium, and Denmark.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire returned to the Three Lions' setup a month after his arrest in Greece for aggravated assault. Maguire was excused from international duty after he was convicted by a Greek court. The 27-year-old is appealing the guilty verdict.
Manager Gareth Southgate did not select Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden. The two youngsters were sent home in September after they were caught breaking quarantine protocol with women in their hotel.
England will face Wales in a friendly at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 8 before hosting Belgium three days later in Nations League action. Southgate's side will complete the international window with a Nations League match against Denmark on Oct. 14.
