Chelsea suspend 4 fans after alleged racial abuse of Sterling
Chelsea announced Monday that they have suspended four people from attending club matches amid allegations that supporters directed racial abuse toward Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.
Cameras at Saturday's clash between the two sides at Stamford Bridge appeared to capture home fans screaming abuse at the England star as he retrieved the ball from out of play. The abuse allegedly included at least one racist remark.
In a statement, Chelsea said: "Our investigations into this matter are ongoing. We are fully supporting the police investigation and any information we gather will be passed on to them.
"Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behavior abhorrent and if there is evidence of ticket holders taking part in any racist behavior, the club will issue severe sanctions, including bans. We will also fully support any criminal prosecutions."
City say they welcome Chelsea's suspensions. They add: 'Manchester City and Raheem are committed to working with all relevant parties and organisations to support the objective of eradicating racism from the game.’

The incident has reignited the debate about racism in football. Sterling's accused the British newspaper press of fueling racism with its portrayals of young, black footballers, particularly as compared to coverage of their white counterparts.
The Professional Footballers' Association firmly supported Sterling, stating this week that it stands "shoulder to shoulder" with the star.
