Tottenham will enter a new era with Harry Kane leading the way.

The prolific 24-year-old striker signed a new six-year contract until June 2024, the club announced Friday, neutralising rumours of a move away from north London.

With manager Mauricio Pochettino tied down and the new White Hart Lane near completion, Spurs are again positioned to challenge for a first league title since 1961.

Kane was considered grossly underpaid by Spurs at a reported basic salary of £90,000 - far below the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero, and Alvaro Morata. His deal remained unchanged despite a spate of renewals at Enfield.

But that situation has been rectified. Kane could now reportedly pull in as much as £200,000 a week with bonuses and add-ons, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law. Although that would still leave the English international some way short of the Premier League's biggest earners, the move has certainly smashed Tottenham's pre-existing wage structure.

Kane is coming off another fantastic season with Tottenham. He just barely missed out on the Premier League's Golden Boot, scoring 30 goals in 37 appearances as his side finished third behind Manchester United and Manchester City.

He also surpassed Teddy Sheringham as the club's all-time leading scorer with an official tally of 108 goals in 153 appearances.

Speculation about a move to Real Madrid intensified throughout the 2017-18 season, especially as Karim Benzema's struggles in front of goal continued. Kane, along with Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, were discussed as potential replacements for the Frenchman.

However, Kane stated as recently as January that he would be happy to remain at Tottenham.

"I've always said, just keep progressing, keep getting better," he said. "We want to start winning trophies so that's the aim. As long as the club keeps doing that, then I'm happy here."

Tottenham's last success came in 2007-08, when it defeated Chelsea at Wembley to win the League Cup.
