Dortmund's Aubameyang set to play Saturday amid links to Arsenal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could feature for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday after impressing manager Peter Stoger during the team's last training session.
The Gabon forward appeared to be on the verge of joining Arsenal this month, as he was left out of Dortmund's last two matches for seemingly breaking club rules by missing a team meeting.
The Premier League side reportedly met with Aubameyang's father and agreed to terms of a contract with the 28-year-old. But Arsenal apparently failed to get over the final hurdle when Dortmund rejected a bid worth £50 million.
Now it appears the apparent rift between club and player has been repaired following a positive training session Wednesday ahead of Saturday's encounter with Freiburg.
"Aubameyang has trained with the team and he has done well," Stoger told reporters, according to ESPN FC's Stefan Buczko. "So as things stand he has qualified to be in the team on Saturday."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was coy when asked about the possibility of Aubameyang joining his team this month, insisting his remarks would only hinder the north London team's efforts to reinforce its attack in the wake of Alexis Sanchez's transfer to Manchester United earlier this week.
"The best is I don’t talk about that," Wenger said, courtesy of ESPN FC's Mattias Karen. "Because it wouldn’t help. If something happens, it happens. If it doesn’t happen we are strong enough to focus on the players we have."
