Manchester City's 18-match winning streak ends with costly Palace draw
Crystal Palace denied Pep Guardiola's record-breakers a 19th consecutive victory in Sunday's entertaining 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park.
Ederson saved Luka Milivojevic's 92nd-minute penalty to ensure City remained unbeaten in the Premier League, but the result meant it fell just win short of matching Bayern Munich for the longest streak in Europe's top five leagues.
City also lost Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne to potentially long-term injuries. De Bruyne required a stretcher in second-half stoppage time after taking a dangerous tackle from Jason Puncheon, although the Belgian was pictured walking on the sidelines after the match.
It's only the second time City has dropped points this season. The table topper also suffered a 1-1 draw with Everton in August.
City dominated the match with its customary share of possession, but managed a disappointing four shots on target. Guardiola had warned that the 18-match winning streak would come to an end eventually, especially with matches coming in quick succession. The decorated Spanish manager was concerned that playing in four competitions would have negative effects on his squad.
Palace equalled City's intensity throughout the contest and limited the visitor's number of genuine goal-scoring opportunities. It was some feat for a relegation battler facing a side that scored 107 goals in 2017.
Wilfried Zaha proved to be a nuisance on the opposite end of the pitch as well, drawing the foul that led to Milivojevic's late spot-kick.
Despite the scoreless draw, City still extended its lead atop to the Premier League table to 14 points.
