Report: Swansea close to re-signing Bony from Manchester City

Wilfried Bony is expected to return to Swansea City after failing to impress in two-and-a-half years at Manchester City, according to the BBC's Simon Stone.

City coughed up a sizeable £25 million to sign Bony from Swansea in January 2015, but the investment didn't pay dividends. The Ivory Coast international scored just 10 goals for City before seeking a fresh start on loan at Stoke City last season.

That didn't go well, either. The 28-year-old only made 10 Premier League appearances for the Potters, who didn't hesitate to send Bony back to his parent club.

City manager Pep Guardiola clearly has no place in his plans for Bony, whose direct and aggressive style of play is philosophically different from the Spaniard's idea of football. Plus, Guardiola already has a plethora of attacking talent at his disposal, with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus leading the way.

Before his ill-fated move to the Etihad, Bony captured headlines for his impressive scoring rate with the Swans. He banged in 26 goals over 54 league appearances to keep Swansea safe from relegation.
