City fans require MUTV subscription to watch pre-season Manchester derby

An article on Manchester City's website providing details on how to watch the stateside derby against Manchester United was quickly removed once supporters learned that MUTV was their only option.

City supporters in the United Kingdom were informed Wednesday that they would have to pay their fiercest rival a subscription fee in order to watch the Manchester derby when the two teams take the pitch in Houston, Texas on Thursday.

Needless to say, City fans weren't impressed and voiced their displeasure toward paying to watch the match on United's in-house television channel, which is the only rights holder for the match in Britain.

It will reportedly cost £7 to join MUTV for one month, according to James Ducker of The Telegraph.

The backlash from supporters prompted City to remove the article from its website shortly after it was published.

The uproar over the television rights will likely result in the usual crowd of United supporters tuning into MUTV while the proud City fans are expected to search for alternative avenues to keep up with the match.
