Everton's spending spree looked justified Friday.
In the first game of the UEFA Under-21 Championship, Jordan Pickford saved a penalty kick in the 81st minute, paving the way for a scoreless draw between Sweden and England at Kielce Stadium. The reigning champion was the better team in the second half, but, thanks to the English 'keeper - who joined Everton on Thursday for a club-record transfer fee of £30 million - the Three Lions escaped with a point.
