Backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm replaced Tottenham starter Hugo Lloris for Wednesday's match against Swansea City after the Frenchman fell ill at lunchtime.
"Hugo started to feel unwell after lunch so stayed at the hotel. He is not ready to play," said manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Lloris has started all but three of Tottenham's Premier League contests this season, missing two other matches earlier in the campaign because of a hamstring injury.
The unexpected switch provides Vorm with an opportunity to face former club Swansea, where he played between 2011 and 2014.
Victor Wanyama did travel with Tottenham to Wales despite a back injury, but he wasn't included in Pochettino's squad for the encounter.
