AFCON: Cameroon into semi-finals after Senegal's Mane misses penalty
Seven players resisted a call-up to Cameroon's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, including Joel Matip, Allan Nyom, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. But that isn't stopping the Indomitable Lions from pouncing on their prey in Gabon.
On Saturday, at Stade de Franceville, Cameroon advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations' semi-finals by edging out Senegal in a penalty shootout. Of all the people to miss, it was Sadio Mane, the most valuable player in the history of African football with a reported price tag of £34 million, who failed to make the net bulge.
Mane, who scored two goals in the group stage, went down the middle and Fabrice Ondoa got a hand to the ball, paving the way for Vincent Aboubakar to whip home the penalty that confirmed Cameroon's place in the semi-finals. The Indomitable Lions instantly hurdled over the advertisement boards to celebrate with their supporters.

Cameroon's triumph continued the Indomitable Lions' tradition of eliminating Senegal on African football's biggest stage. In the quarter-finals of the 1992 African Cup of Nations, an 89th-minute winner from Ernest Ebongue knocked out Les Lions de la Teranga. Ten years later, in the final of the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon denied Senegal of a first-ever conquest. In that instance, Andy Faye, El Hadji Diouf, and Aliou Cisse all missed in the penalty shootout.
