Ex-Everton defender Yobo to make comeback
Abuja, Nigeria - Former Everton defender Joseph Yobo is to make a comeback to help boost interest in the Nigerian domestic league.
Yobo retired in 2014 following a short spell at Norwich City but will feature in the last 12 first division games of the season, The Nigerian League announced on Tuesday.
The League Management Company (LMC) said the gesture would be similar to an arrangement that saw former World Cup star Sani Kaita play for Enyimba and then FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The initiative is aimed at bringing back top foreign-based talent to play domestic football.
The league will pay part of Yobo's salary to help make the move possible, in the hope his presence will boost attendances.
Yobo, 35, played at three World Cups, led Nigeria to a third Africa Cup of Nations triumph three years ago and was the first player from the country to reach a century of international caps.
League leaders Wikki Tourists, Ifeanyi Ubah, Kano Pillars and Akwa United are among the clubs jostling for the central defender, who also played for Marseille, Standard Liege and Fenerbache.
