Report: Terry cancels Stamford Bridge farewell party amid contract talks
All signs are pointing to another season at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea captain John Terry.
Following his comments to the Chelsea faithful after the team's final match of the season, and confirmation that he and the team's representatives board will discuss a new contract, Terry has canceled plans to hold a farewell party with friends and family at Stamford Bridge, sources tell ESPNFC.
The 35-year-old had booked the pitch with hopes of having a kickabout on the field that's brought him so much success over the years after a red card saw his season come to an abrupt end with two matches remaining.
Those plans have reportedly been nixed by the club's reversal on its original decision to allow him to leave at the end of the season. Now Chelsea is willing to offer him a chance to play at least one more season, but, during his speech Sunday, Terry disclosed that he will need time to negotiate and evaluate the Blues' offer.
"I've said for a very long time I want to be here for the rest of my career," Terry said after Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Leicester City. "I want to finish my career here. We'll have a few days and we'll be speaking to the club. Listen, I want to stay. The club knows that, the fans know that. I want to stay."
