Stephen Ireland's season is over after the Stoke City midfielder broke his leg during training Tuesday.
The Premier League side added Ireland is facing an extended period on the sidelines because of the injury, with his availability for the start of the 2016-17 campaign in question.
The injury comes just days before Stoke hosts the last match of the season Sunday against West Ham United at the Britannia Stadium.
Ireland, who previously played for Aston Villa and Manchester City, appeared in 16 matches this season for Stoke, including Sunday's 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
