John Terry pays funeral costs for 8-year-old Chelsea supporter
John Terry didn't hesitate when the prospect of paying for the funeral of an 8-year-old Chelsea fan, whom he met last summer, was presented to him.
Tommi Miller died after a lengthy struggle with leukemia less than a year after meeting Terry and other Chelsea stars in June. The Chelsea captain was devastated after learning about the fate of the young fan, according to The Cambridge News.
"Having had the pleasure of meeting Tommi at a Chelsea game I was totally devastated to hear of him passing away," Terry said.
"I'm sure his family and friends will give him the send off he deserves."
Upon hearing the news from friends of the Miller family on social media, Terry donated £1,600 to cover the funeral costs, a gesture which left Tommi's mother "overwhelmed" by his generosity. A portion of that money will also go towards the purchase of a headstone.
The Cambridge News adds that those attending the funeral, which takes place Thursday, will wear either Chelsea or Cambridge United jerseys to pay homage to the football teams Tommi followed closely.
Tawney-Bianca Toogood, a friend of the Miller family, requested Terry's assistance on Instagram. Terry responded immediately to find out how much the service would cost before making arrangements with the funeral director to confirm it was a genuine request.
