After being pushed back a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 43rd Ryder Cup will finally be played at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin this week. The format will once again be four foursome matches (alternate shot) on both Friday and Saturday mornings with four games of four-ball (better ball) in each of the afternoons. The event will conclude with 12 singles matches Sunday to determine the winner of the coveted Cup.

United States
The Americans come to Whistling Straits as the betting favorites to win just their second Ryder Cup since 2008. Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson headline the veterans on the squad, with stars Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay set to make their first appearance in the event. The disrupter: DeChambeau brings game, baggage to Ryder Cup
The most talked-about golfer in the world comes to Whistling Straits with no signs of laying low. Bryson DeChambeau will make his second career start at the Ryder Cup hoping for a different result than his disastrous 0-3 showing in Paris. There's also his months-long feud with teammate Brooks Koepka, his rigorous training for next week's long drive championship prior to the Ryder Cup, and the often-discussed question as to who he'll partner with. Azinger: Koepka should relinquish his spot on Ryder Cup team after comments
As if the American Ryder Cup team needed more drama, Koepka's desire to be part of the event has been called into question after a wide-ranging interview in Golf Digest. The four-time major champion admitted switching from the PGA TOUR's individual game to the Ryder Cup's team atmosphere can be "hectic" and "odd," causing NBC analyst, and former U.S. Captain, Paul Azinger to question whether the 31-year-old should pull out of the event. No Tiger. No Phil - and maybe a U.S. Ryder Cup victory
For the first time since 1995, neither Tiger Woods nor Phil Mickelson will strike a shot in the Ryder Cup. Mickelson looked to be trending toward a selection after his shock win at the PGA Championship in May, but his poor play for the remainder of the season saw him fall out of contention. Instead, he'll settle for a vice-captain's role in Wisconsin. Woods continues his recovery from his car accident earlier this year, but he'll likely communicate to the team throughout. The course
Pete Dye made his name with devilish designs littered across the globe, and the layout at Whistling Straits is no different. While the course isn't a true links-style track, it resembles something you'd be more likely to see in the United Kingdom than just off the coast of Lake Michigan.
Whistling Straits will play as a 7,390-yard, par 71 for the week, with plenty of risk-reward holes dotting the property. Dye didn't wait long to get players' minds racing, as the first hole for the Ryder Cup will be a 364-yard par 4 that the longest hitters may threaten to drive if the wind is right.
Outside of the massive Lake Michigan running alongside many holes, the most noticeable thing about Whistling Straits is the seemingly endless bunkers. There are more than 1,000 bunkers around the course, with the eighth hole featuring the most with 102.
