Chelsea are prepared to offer more than the £110 million that Liverpool agreed to pay Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo in a last-ditch attempt to give the in-demand midfielder the move he's always wanted, sources told The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg and Andy Hunter.

Shortly after Liverpool struck a deal with Brighton, Caicedo reportedly informed the Merseyside outfit that he prefers to join Chelsea. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed Brighton accepted an offer for the Ecuadorian international but didn't confirm reports that the figure was a British-record £110 million.

Brighton held an auction for the player Thursday night, with Chelsea reportedly falling short of Liverpool's bid with a package worth up to £100 million. But the Blues returned to the negotiating table Friday, apparently offering Caicedo higher wages to stop his move to Liverpool from happening.

Caicedo reportedly spent the last two days in London to get a deal done with Chelsea.

Liverpool are now considering walking away from the deal altogether, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. Despite agreeing to a fee, the club was reportedly missing an agreement on personal terms with Caicedo.

Chelsea also abandoned their pursuit of Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams to focus on signing Brighton's 21-year-old sensation, according to Romano. The west London side was considering paying Adams' £20-million relegation clause, and the U.S. international had even traveled to London to undergo a medical.

But their focus hasn't been entirely on Caicedo. A source told The Guardian that Chelsea found time to offer Southampton around £55 million for midfielder Romeo Lavia and that the Belgian could arrive alongside Caicedo at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool reportedly made multiple attempts to sign Lavia but routinely fell short of Southampton's £50-million asking price.
