Everton confirm Ancelotti's return to Premier League
Carlo Ancelotti wasn't out of work for very long.
Just a week-and-a-half after he was fired by Napoli, the 60-year-old took the reins at Everton on Saturday.
Ancelotti signed a contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Duncan Ferguson, who took charge of Saturday's match against Arsenal, will remain at the club as part of Ancelotti's coaching staff.
"This is a great club with a rich history and a very passionate fan base," Ancelotti said. "There is a clear vision from the owner and the board to deliver success and trophies. That is something that appeals to me as a manager and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work with everybody at the club to help make that vision a reality.
In a separate statement on Twitter, Ancelotti said he was "delighted" to be back in the Premier League. He coached Chelsea to their first domestic double during the 2009-10 season.
Ancelotti arrives in place of Marco Silva, who was sacked a day after Everton lost 5-2 to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Expectations are high at the club, especially after a summer that took its expenditures beyond the £100-million mark.
The Toffees hovered around the relegation zone during the first few months of the season but jolted back to life under Ferguson's care. They produced a stirring 3-1 win over Chelsea and held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Everton, however, fell to Leicester City in the League Cup quarterfinals on penalty kicks.
"Following a rigorous process conducted by all of our directors, it is a pleasure to now welcome Carlo Ancelotti to Everton," Marcel Brands, Everton's director of football, said. "He is one of the finest managers in world football and a proven winner, having achieved a remarkable level of success in each of Europe's major leagues.
"He is the perfect appointment for us. He embraces our vision for the club and we are sure that his enthusiasm to take the helm at Goodison together with his tactical abilities and well-renowned man-management will make him successful in this role."
Ancelotti won two Champions League titles at AC Milan and won league titles in Italy, England, France, and Germany during stints with Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.
He also led Real Madrid to an elusive 10th Champions League crown in 2013-14.
