Manchester United confirmed on Wednesday that both Paul Pogba and David De Gea are set to miss Sunday's much-anticipated meeting with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial could return for the Premier League clash.

Pogba has missed five of United's last seven matches with a persistent ankle injury and was unavailable for the past two international breaks while France traversed Euro 2020 qualification ties against Albania, Andorra, Iceland, and Turkey.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given minutes to Scott McTominay, Fred, and Nemanja Matic at the base of midfield during Pogba's absence.

Manchester United revealed De Gea is nursing a muscle injury after being substituted during Spain's 1-1 draw against Sweden on Tuesday. The goalkeeper is likely to be replaced by Sergio Romero - who has played a game apiece in the Europa League and League Cup this season - for the visit from Liverpool.

"I can't tell you 100% (who) is going to be fit as something might happen," Solskjaer said to Sky Sports about United's other injury news.

"But hopefully Aaron and Anthony will last the training this week and be available for selection. If it's for half a game or 30 minutes I don't know but let's see where they're at."

Manchester United are in the midst of their worst start to a league campaign in 30 years and signed off for October's international break with a 1-0 loss at relegation-threatened Newcastle United.
