Liverpool continued their spotless start to the Premier League season Sunday with a 2-1 victory at Chelsea.

First-half goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino were enough to see Jurgen Klopp's charges re-establish a five-point lead atop the table with six wins from six games.

N'Golo Kante's stunning solo effort 19 minutes from time halved the Reds' once-comfortable advantage amid a period of pressure from the hosts. In the end, it wasn't enough as the Blues suffered a second loss on the season to sit stuck in 11th place amid a logjam of six teams on eight points.

Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the 14th minute when the full-back thumped a well-engineered free-kick on the edge of the penalty that saw Mohamed Salah deftly backheel the ball into the English man's path.

Firmino doubled the visitors' advantage 16 minutes later when the unmarked Brazilian leaped to head Andrew Robertson's set-piece delivery beyond a helpless Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea were particularly good in the second half, specifically in the waning moments of a frenetic affair. Mason Mount and second-half substitute Michy Batshuayi both had chances to level the score late.

The victory was Liverpool's first away victory against a top-six side in more than a year as the defending Champions League winners become the first club in top-flight history to start successive domestic campaigns with six wins on the spin.
