Report: Manchester United end Eriksen pursuit
Manchester United have abandoned their pursuit of Christian Eriksen after learning the Tottenham playmaker prefers a move to Spain, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.
United were hoping to sign Eriksen before Thursday's transfer deadline but ended discussions once they determined the 27-year-old had resolved to change leagues.
PA Media reports that Eriksen remains interested in joining Real Madrid. The Telegraph's Jason Burt, meanwhile, understands crosstown rivals Atletico also held talks with Tottenham when the two sides were negotiating Kieran Trippier's move to the Spanish capital in July.
Eriksen, who has just one year remaining on his contract with Spurs, revealed in June he'd like to "try something new."
United reportedly had similar reservations about signing Paulo Dybala from Juventus. They eventually called off a swap deal involving striker Romelu Lukaku because of Dybala's excessive wage demands.
With less than 48 hours to go until the end of the Premier League's transfer window, United may not have time to make another big signing. In any case, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be comfortable with the squad at his disposal, according to Ducker.
Premier League clubs can still sell players after Thursday's deadline.
