Arsenal's injury concerns at the back have been compounded by fears that central defender Laurent Koscielny broke his jaw during Friday's FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

"Maybe he's broken (his cheek or jaw) but I hope not," manager Unai Emery said after the match, noting that Koscielny had gone to the hospital.

The Gunners captain was the recipient of an inadvertent boot to the face from robust Red Devils forward Romelu Lukaku shortly before the hour mark at the Emirates Stadium. The former French international was in noticeable pain as blood cascaded from below his left ear. Following a delay, he came off in the 64th minute for Matteo Guendouzi.

Koscielny and center-half partner Sokratis were both forced off with injuries during the 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium. With both Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin out for the season, Unai Emery now faces a potential dearth of defensive options.

"Sokratis hurt his ankle - I hope not a lot," Emery told BBC Sport post-match. He added, "We are taking a lot of big injuries, like Hector Bellerin."

Arsenal will lick their wounds ahead of a Premier League visit from Cardiff City on Tuesday, hoping to edge nearer to fourth-placed Chelsea and a coveted Champions League spot.
