Slavisa Jokanovic has opened up a lead in the Premier League sack race.

The Serbian manager will reportedly be given two league matches to try to arrest Fulham's slide and prove he's the right man for the job, according to Graham Thomas and Gary Jacobs of The Times.

The Cottagers were beaten 4-2 by Cardiff City on Saturday, and are now 18th in the English top flight with a league-worst 25 goals conceded across nine matches. This woeful defensive record follows a net spend of a little under £100 million during the summer transfer window.

Fulham developed a legion of admirers last season for their attractive attacking football en route to promotion from the Championship via the playoffs. There is still evidence of that slick, adventurous play - Andre Schurrle, who was recruited before Fulham's Premier League return, netted a stunner against Cardiff - but the space afforded from questionable backline positioning is alarming, while the likes of Kevin McDonald and Stefan Johansen are experiencing rough transitions to the first tier.

Jokanovic will seek a solution over the working week ahead of Saturday's visit from Bournemouth. Then, following a League Cup skirmish with Manchester City, Premier League commitments continue with a trip to fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town on Nov. 5.

Jokanovic was in talks with Fulham over an extended deal in the summer, Thomas and Jacobs report, but no agreement materialized.
