Sturridge: 'I see myself staying at Liverpool'

Daniel Sturridge spent the second half of last season at West Bromwich Albion in a bid to prove his fitness before England's World Cup campaign. Once again, a potential run of first-team minutes was cut short by injury.

However, the 28-year-old has made a strong start to Liverpool's pre-season campaign, scoring twice in the club's first friendly of the summer at Chester FC. He may also move up the pecking order if the potential sales of Danny Ings and Divock Origi go through, and he sticks around.

After his disappointing loan at West Brom, does Sturridge have a feature back on Merseyside?

"I see myself staying at Liverpool, hopefully being part of the team week in, week out," Sturridge told the club website.

"Pre-season is going well, so for me it's keeping my head down and building on that. I'm excited about the season ahead and it feels great to be back.

"I am feeling great and can't wait to get the season underway. We have the tour to come where we face some great teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, and (Borussia) Dortmund."

The Reds have strengthened in the summer window, with the eventual arrival of Naby Keita being supplemented by Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and, if Wednesday's reports are to be believed, Roma goalkeeper Alisson.

Liverpool begins its Premier League term with a visit from West Ham United on Aug. 12.
