World Cup viewers are only getting Salah for starters.

Mohamed Salah will be whipped off the tournament menu following the final day of Group A action next Monday. Egypt's elimination from the World Cup was confirmed by Uruguay's 1-0 defeat of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The loss also confirmed Saudi Arabia's exit from the competition, meaning all that's left to decide in the quartet is who finishes top and as runner-up out of host Russia and Uruguay. The flawless pair lock horns in Samara at the start of next week.

Uruguay only required a Luis Suarez header - another World Cup goal from a set-piece after goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais misjudged Carlos Sanchez's corner - for the victory, but was under duress from a much-unfancied Saudi Arabia for significant periods.

The result booted Egypt following its woeful 3-1 defeat to Russia on Tuesday. Salah's 73rd-minute penalty was a mere consolation for the Pharaohs after an Ahmed Fathi own goal, Denis Cheryshev finish, and a moment of inspiration from hefty hitman Artem Dzyuba put Russia 3-0 up in 15 second-half minutes.

Russia and Uruguay, both with six points apiece, will determine their final Group A standings on Monday. Their round-of-16 opponents will be taken from Group B, where Spain and Portugal are heavy favourites to clinch the top two spots.

Liverpool star Salah, meanwhile, faces a sorry ending to an incredible 10 months when Egypt faces Saudi Arabia in a meaningless meeting in Volgograd.
