Liverpool warns supporters not to walk to Roma stadium

Ahead of Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Roma, Liverpool advised its fans travelling to Italy to refrain from heading to the Stadio Olimpico on foot following violent incidents between fans of the two sides in the first leg last week.

"Supporters are strongly advised to use the available shuttle buses to the stadium, which will run from Piazzale delle Canestre, Villa Borghese, starting from 4 p.m," the English club's official statement reads.

"Under no circumstances should supporters attempt to walk to the Stadio Olimpico."

Liverpool also suggests its fans should not wear coloured clothing and should avoid travelling alone.

According to Merseyside Police, two suspects were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Liverpool fan Sean Cox was attacked near Anfield by two Italian men just prior to the first leg. Cox, 53, required surgery for his injuries and was also placed in an induced coma, though doctors said they plan to awaken him in the hopes his condition will improve.

Roma immediately condemned the attack on Cox, and club chairman James Pallotta blasted the "couple of f------ morons" responsible.

Liverpool heads into Wednesday's match with a 5-2 lead on aggregate. Both teams will look to book a spot in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, who prevailed over Bayern Munich on Tuesday in the other semi-final.
