Bayern Munich made short work of Borussia Dortmund in an emphatic 6-0 win on Saturday, with five goals coming in the first half of play in a match that saw the Bavarians take another step toward a sixth consecutive Bundesliga title.

Fielding its oldest starting XI of the season, Bayern quickly took the lead in a rivalry known as "Der Klassikerr" by way of a fifth-minute goal from Robert Lewandowski, which James Rodriguez doubled 10 minutes later.

Thomas Muller added a third at the 23rd-minute mark, which also accounted for his 103rd Bundesliga goal and saw him surpass Dieter Hoeness to become fourth in Bayern's all-time scoring chart.

Lewandowski doubled his tally with one minute left in the first half, before Franck Ribery made it five at the half-time whistle with a cheeky chip. It was the first time Dortmund went into the locker room at the Allianz Arena having conceded five times in a first half since April 1978.

The second half was considerably less glamorous, apart from Lewandowski completing his hat-trick with an 87th-minute effort.

The win didn't just maintain Bayern's 17-point lead over Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga table - it also marked another successful triumph in what was Bayern's 1,800th Bundesliga match, and 900th at home.
