Manchester United's Phil Jones, Ander Herrera doubtful for PSV clash

Manchester United anticipates being without defender Phil Jones and midfielder Ander Herrera for Wednesday's Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

Both players left Saturday's Premier League victory over Watford, with Herrera suffering a hamstring injury while Jones hurt his foot.

"My first impression is that they are not too heavy but the problem is that we have to play Wednesday already," manager Louis van Gaal told the club's official website.

"We are in a lousy period with a lot of injuries," said van Gaal. "Also in the international break. Antonio Valencia was operated on and Luke Shaw you know, and now Jones and Herrera, I think, are not available for Wednesday."

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, both of whom missed the trip to Vicarage Road, are expected to be fit for Wednesday. Rooney missed the trip to Watford with a virus, while Martial was nursing a bruised foot picked-up in France's 2-0 friendly loss to England.

"Rooney is ill, and that is a matter of days, not weeks," Van Gaal added. "Martial is another problem - his foot. It is not as heavy as the media have written but we have to wait and see if he can play Wednesday."

United sits top of Champions League Group B, a point clear of both PSV and Wolfsburg, and three points clear of CSKA Moscow.
