Brazilian legend Zico reveals plans for FIFA presidency

Rio-born hero of Brazilian football lore Zico has announced strategies to run for the FIFA top-job, launching a website that details a manifesto of proposals for replacing the controversial Sepp Blatter.

The current gaffer for Indian outfit FC Goa, Zico's aptly-named website ZicoFifa.com has been launched in conjunction with the 62-year-old's backing from Brazilian Football Confederation, who publicly vouched for the 71-time capped former attacking midfielder in July.

The website highlights "10 Foundations for Change," identifying four pillars of focus for the comprehensive reconstruction of FIFA's ideals, democracy, transparency, governance, and evolution.

"We all agree that FIFA needs to evolve into a much better organization, particularly in matters of democracy and transparency," Zico said in an email sent to fellow interested presidential hopefuls Michel Platini, Musa Nility, Chung Moon-joon, and David Nakhid.

"Change, however, is not an event. It is a process and we must start by making sure this election is fair, transparent, and democratic."

Zico continued, "It is of the utmost importance that all member associations get the chance to know better all potential candidates and their ideas as soon as possible."

Despite Zico's interest and the backing of a massively-influential governing body like that of Brazil's, Platini is a strong favourite for the position to be vacated by Blatter on February 26th.

Zico's website reiterates many of the points of the aforementioned email, and his intentions seem genuine, as the former Flamengo star looks to lead FIFA away from an era marred by controversy and shame.

"Einstein would say that insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, expecting different results. It is therefore very important that we build this election with much more democracy and transparency.

"It is time all member associations, its constituents, and everybody concerned with football worldwide learn more about the potential candidates. Everybody interested in football should somehow participate in this election."
