Welcome back, Champions League football.

Europe's premier club competition made its long-awaited return Tuesday, with a total of 21 goals gracing the first eight group-stage matches.

Of those 21 strikes, five stood out above the rest. Here are the best goals from the Champions League's opening day:

5. Derdiyok's delicious delivery

Galatasaray dispatched Russian champions Lokomotiv Moscow with ease, running out 3-0 winners thanks in part to this sublime Eren Derdiyok free-kick in the 67th minute.

4. Bobby's one-eyed winner

Roberto Firmino's eye injury relegated him to the bench for most of Liverpool's encounter with Paris Saint-Germain, but he had no issue with a super-sub role, turning Marquinhos inside out before firing the Reds' third past Alphonse Areola in stoppage time.

3. Dembele's clever curler

Ousmane Dembele's first season at Barcelona was a nightmare. However, the French winger has been one of the Blaugrana's better performers of the young 2018-19 campaign, adding to his hot start with this tasty strike against PSV Eindhoven.

2. Messi's sumptuous set piece

Lionel Messi had himself a hat-trick Tuesday against PSV. His fantastic free-kick on the half-hour mark to open the scoring could be a contender for his best goal in Europe this season.

1. Icardi's venomous volley

Down 1-0 at home to Tottenham, Mauro Icardi couldn't have delivered his side better inspiration than this ridiculous first-touch volley to level the score in the 85th minute. Seven minutes later, Matias Vecino headed in a second to complete the Nerazzurri's comeback and cap a miserable stretch for Spurs.
