Injury-plagued Juventus names 19-man squad for Barcelona tilt
Juventus is set for a Champions League bout with Barcelona on Tuesday under the lights of Camp Nou but Massimiliano Allegri's ranks are a bit thinner than he would like.
The Bianconeri named a 19-man squad Monday for the trip to Catalonia, and while the ever-present likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Gianluigi Buffon and Paulo Dybala were included, other key contributors remain out with injury.
Giorgio Chiellini, Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, and Mario Mandzukic were left off as they deal with various injuries. Benedikt Howedes was also absent from the squad, as is Juan Cuadrado, who is suspended for this fixture.
Chiellini is recovering from a calf injury, while Khedira and Marchisio deal with knee issues. Mandzukic seemed to pick up a knock during Juventus' 3-0 win over Chievo while Howedes has reportedly trained alone this week.
Newcomers Blaise Matuidi, Douglas Costa, and Federico Bernardeschi did make the cut, however.
The full squad:
Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon, Wojciech Szczesny, Carlo Pinsoglio
Defenders: Mattia De Sciglio, Medhi Benatia, Alex Sandro, Andrea Barzagli, Daniele Rugani
Midfielders: Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi, Kwadwo Asamoah, Stefano Sturaro, Rodrigo Bentancur, Leonardo Merio, Fabrizio Caligara
Forwards: Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi
