Stampeders hold on to keep Roughriders winless
The Calgary Stampeders held off a late fourth-quarter surge by the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a 34-31 victory Saturday.
The game remained tight until the end of the second, when Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell hurled a 46-yard Hail Mary with no time on the clock to Eric Rogers for a touchdown, giving the Stampeders a 16-9 lead heading into the half.
The Roughriders would storm back tying the game at 24 with an impressive 15-point third quarter. The Stampeders would take a 10-point lead in the fourth, and though Saskatchewan would reply with seven points of their own, that was as close as they'd get.
The Stampeders improve to 6-2 with the win and move into sole possession of first place in the West Division, while the Roughriders remain winless on the season at 0-8.
