Stamps announce 2015 captains
The 2014 Grey Cup-winning Calgary Stampeders head into the new campaign with much of its core intact. A player vote designated many of those members as the leaders for 2015.
Multidimensional quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, veteran linebacker Juwan Simpson, running back Rob Cote, and all-star punter Rob Maver have all been named captains for the upcoming season.
The quarterback was instrumental in 2014, registering a remarkable 98.3 efficiency rating, while also being hailed Grey Cup MVP. There's no doubt he, alongside his fellow captains, will look to build off the success from last year.
Twenty-eight-year-old Cote was appreciative of the players recognizing his leadership.
"I try to be a leader and you hope the guys appreciate the work you do and this is kind of affirmation of that," he told News Talk 770 Stamps radio.
Mitchell was also proud of the acknowledgement.
"Honestly, it's one of the greatest honors that I have received, above Grey Cup MVP, to be voted captain by teammates, he said through his Twitter account.
The Red and White will begin their championship defense at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 26.
