Alouettes release Khalif Mitchell
Khalif Mitchell's tenure with the Montreal Alouettes did not last long. The controversial defensive tackle was released Friday just four months after signing a three-year contract to play in Montreal.
Mitchell tweeted that he was no longer an Alouette despite a strong performance during the pre-season, recording two tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in a pair of games.
A two-time CFL all-star, Mitchell spent four of his previous five seasons with the BC Lions. After playing with the Lions from 2010-12, Mitchell spent the 2013 season with the Toronto Argonauts before returning to British Columbia last season.
Mitchell made headlines last month when he was fined by both the team and league after making offensive tweets that appeared to deny the Holocaust. He has notched 95 tackles and 14 sacks during his five-year CFL career.
