While most of the league was preoccupied with the Toronto Argonauts announcing their new ownership and stadium deal, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were bidding farewell to longtime fullback Neal Hughes.
The 34-year-old Hughes spent 11 seasons in the CFL, all with the Roughriders. The Regina native debuted in 2004 after being signed as a free agent.
During his tenure, Hughes compiled 70 carries for 277 rushing yards, tallying eight rushing touchdowns. He also caught 46 passes for 505 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
The veteran clutched the Grey Cup twice in his career, when the Roughriders won in 2007 and 2013.
